The beautiful birds pictured on this website were inspiration for me when I wrote The Secret Hum of a Daisy.

Another big part of the story are origami cranes. People all over the world fold origami cranes by the thousands and send them to the Children’s Peace Monument in Japan. Japanese legend says if you fold one thousand origami cranes, a wish will be granted. Give it a try. The Children’s Peace Monument is a tribute to Sadako Sasaki.

The new story I'm working on, which doesn't quite have a title yet, has to do with a big, crazy family, once-in-a-lifetime friendships and meatballs. Click on the image below for a yummy surprise.

The first thing I learned when I started writing for kids was to read, read, read, lots of kids books. I never stopped. Click here for some of my favorites.

Almost as much as kids books, I love reading books on how to craft a novel.

Some of us have a special book that turned us into a reader or a writer. For me, that book was Little Women. If you have a special book that you love more than peanut butter and jelly or ice cream sandwiches, I’d love to hear about it. You can contact me here.
